When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Growing

I’m back after an unplanned absence.  Like many of my flowers and vegetables, I ran into some rough “weather” toward the end of July and during the month of August.  Thank goodness I faired better than a lot of my plants!  After a cool and wet start to the growing season, the rains stopped and the sun turned up the heat.  Our grass and bushes suffered greatly.

I did not plant the marigold in these pictures.  Somehow a seed fell in the crack of our concrete and it grew.  Not only did it live, but it as you can see below, it flourished despite the horrendous August heat.  I have a whole new respect for marigolds.
